Perth County
Interior Painting

Character is the local currency in Perth County — Stratford's festival-district Victorians, St. Marys' limestone-era houses, Listowel farmhouses that have raised five generations. We repaint their interiors with the patience they deserve, on written per-sq-ft pricing with a warranty behind it. Perth County work is booked around the season — walls from $2.35 a square foot of floor area, before HST.

What Perth County interior painting costs, per foot.

Four packages, one rate each, published and quoted against floor area. Stratford, St. Marys and the county around them, on the same card as everywhere else.

Lower end: vacant home, standard 8' ceilings, light/similar colours, normal condition. Upper end: occupied home, 9'+ ceilings, stronger colour changes, additional cutting/preparation.

Doors with frames, both sides — $150–225 each, any package. Doors sit outside all four packages and are counted per door, because a house with fifteen of them is a different job from a house with five.

2-year workmanship warranty on every package — the same two years whether you book walls only or the whole interior. Materials are specified by grade rather than by brand; the exact product and the colour codes go on the written specification before anyone opens a can.

Projects from $2,500 minimum. Your exact minimum depends on the project location within the region. There is no travel line on the invoice and there never will be: the rates above are the same everywhere we work, and the minimum is the one thing distance changes.

Stratford's older housing is well looked after and heavily repainted, which means sound walls and trim that has lost definition under too many coats — that is a preparation job before it is a painting job. The county brings farmhouses with rooms of very different ages under one roof. A lot of the work here is booked for autumn, once a summer of visiting family is over and the house is finally quiet.

Nothing on this card changes with the distance except the minimum project.

IntraBuild paints interiors throughout Perth County and in the two historic towns inside its borders, Stratford and St. Marys. This is prime southwestern-Ontario farm country — Listowel, Mitchell and Milverton anchoring the townships, concession roads striping the fields between them, some of the richest soil in the province underfoot. The service itself is laid out on our interior painting page; below is how it plays out inside Perth County homes.

Homes here often come with an audience. Stratford's Victorian streets fill with festival visitors every season, and many of those houses run as B&Bs whose guest rooms can't afford a scuffed wall. St. Marys built itself from local limestone, and its heritage interiors carry plaster and millwork worth protecting. Out on the farms the brief is more practical — hard-working kitchens, hallways and mudrooms that need paint tough enough for daily life.

02
— the Perth County map, as we paint it

Where the curtain meets the concession.

every township, plus both separated towns
Listowel
North Perth's hub and the county's fastest-growing town — a main street of Victorian brick, streets of wartime and post-war family homes behind it, and fresh subdivisions at the edges. Repaints run from plaster restoration to first colour in a brand-new build.
Mitchell
A West Perth crossroads town where established century homes share streets with newer infill. Interiors lean traditional — wood trim, panel doors and the original details worth keeping.
Villages & rural communities
Milverton, Shakespeare and Sebringville in the east; Atwood and Monkton up north. Village-lot century homes, tidy post-war bungalows — and the working farmhouses that fill every concession in between.

Stratford and St. Marys govern themselves separately from the county, but you'd never draw that line from a paint van — we serve both, festival-district B&Bs and Stonetown limestone-era houses included. Prep gets matched to the building's age, whether that means 1870s plaster or last year's drywall.

— surfaces we paint in Perth County homes

Ceilings, trim, stairs — then walls.

what a Perth County repaint usually includes

Walls & ceilings

Guest rooms, whole main floors or one dramatic dining-room wall — plus ceilings, from high Victorian originals to standard-height bungalows.

Trim & doors

Perth's older homes carry serious millwork: deep baseboards, layered casings, transoms and panel doors. We brush them by hand and keep the profiles crisp.

Stairs & built-ins

Staircases with turned spindles, window benches, pantry and parlour built-ins — and sealing new drywall wherever a renovation has opened things up.

B&B-grade and farm-practical

A festival-season guest room needs a flawless finish on a tight turnaround; a farmhouse mudroom needs scrubbable paint that shrugs off boots. We spec for both.

Painting in Perth County: what's different here

Stratford's calendar is written by the theatre, and so is its painting season. From spring through fall the town performs — the Festival fills the inns, the restaurants and every guest room in the county — and from November to March it exhales. That winter exhale is when Perth interiors get painted: B&Bs and boutique inns cycle their rooms through the dark months so everything opens crisp for the first previews, restaurants refresh dining rooms between the holiday rush and spring bookings, and homeowners who host visiting family all summer finally get the painting done. We plan the county's hospitality work backwards from opening night, literally — the written schedule starts from the date the first guests arrive and works upstream.

The town's aesthetic confidence shows in its briefs. Stratford owners — hosts and homeowners alike — ask for colour with conviction: deep greens and inky blues in studies and dining rooms, saturated entries that photograph like a set, heritage rooms where the trim carries the drama. Done properly, those choices are technique — tinted primers, extra coats, disciplined sheen strategy — and a century interior wears them magnificently; done casually, they are streaky disappointments, which is why the deep-shade conversation here always starts with prep and ends with sampling on the actual wall.

Beyond Stratford, Perth is farm country with fine bones. St. Marys — the Stonetown — keeps its limestone streetscapes and the careful interiors they deserve; Listowel and Mitchell carry practical century and post-war stock; and the concessions hold working farmhouses with the usual two-speed logic of hardworking kitchens and patient parlours. Every brief, theatrical or practical, buys the same way: a transparent posted price structure and a written quote itemized to each room and surface, so an innkeeper can slot the numbers into a winter budget and a farm family can see exactly what each phase costs.

04
— travelling to Perth County

The drive is our job.

off Highway 401, through Kitchener–Waterloo

Inside our working range

From Mississauga we head out along Highway 401 and through Kitchener into Perth County — Stratford first, then Mitchell, Listowel and the townships beyond. County jobs are planned as full days, so the kilometres never shave hours off the work.

No mileage on the invoice

The written quote is the entire price. Nobody in Monkton or Milverton pays a travel premium over anyone closer to the highway.

Life carries on around us

Most clients stay home — and B&Bs often stay open — while we paint. Each room is contained, floors and furnishings protected, and we ventilate as we go.

Dates you can plan around

Room sequence and expected finish are agreed in advance — which matters when guest bookings or harvest schedules are in play. Every day ends with a cleanup.

05
— five steps to a finished Perth County job

A method that doesn't change.

B&B, farmhouse or new semi — no shortcuts

Step one in Perth County is always a visit — measure, discuss colours, then a firm price in writing. Step two is protection and prep: furniture out or under cover, plaster patched, sanding and caulking done properly. Step three, primer — tinted when the new colour is far from the old one, so the finish holds true. Step four, two coats applied room by room with hand-cut lines at trim and ceiling. Step five, we walk the job with you and clean up behind ourselves. Full detail sits on our interior painting service page.

— things people ask

Perth County interior painting, question by question.

read before you call
each one opens with a tap

Is the whole of Perth County in your service area?

Yes — Listowel, Mitchell, Milverton, Shakespeare, Atwood, Monkton, Sebringville and the rural townships around them, together with Stratford and St. Marys.

Do you also paint in Stratford and St. Marys?

We do. Both are separated municipalities rather than county-run, but they sit at the heart of the area we cover — Stratford's festival-district homes and St. Marys' Stonetown heritage houses included.

Can you paint a B&B without shutting it down?

Usually, yes. We work room by room and choose low-odour products where turnaround matters, so guest rooms come back into service quickly instead of the whole house going dark.

How do you handle plaster in older homes?

Carefully — cracks opened and filled, loose sections stabilized, everything sealed before colour goes on. Century homes in Stratford, St. Marys and the villages get that prep written into the quote from the start.

What paint do the tiers use?

Paint is specified by grade, not by brand: contractor-grade on Fresh Start, mid-grade on Full Refresh and Complete Home, premium-grade on Signature Finish. Ceilings get dedicated ceiling paint in every case, not wall paint rolled overhead, and the exact product and colour codes go on the written specification before work starts.

Do you carry insurance?

Yes. IntraBuild holds liability insurance and will provide the certificate before starting, on request.

How long will our project take?

A single guest room turns around quickly; a full farmhouse repaint runs longer. The schedule arrives with the quote, so the timeline is agreed before a drop sheet is ever laid.

When should a Stratford B&B repaint to be ready for the Festival?

Work backwards from your first booking: the last room should finish with a couple of weeks to spare, which for most properties means starting in January and cycling one or two rooms at a time. Winter is ideal for it — heated rooms cure paint well and the house stays open through the process.

We want a genuinely dark dining room. How do you make that succeed in an old house?

Preparation first — deep shades broadcast every wall flaw — then a tinted primer, at least two finish coats and a sheen plan that keeps walls soft and trim harder. Sample the shade on two walls and live with it through evening light; dark rooms are lamplight rooms, and that is where the colour must earn its keep.

Do you cover the rest of the county, or just Stratford?

All of Perth — St. Marys, Listowel, Mitchell and the concessions between them — on the same written, room-by-room quote with no distance line on the invoice. Rural jobs are planned as consecutive full days with materials complete on the first trip.
